Maria Claudia [Parma, 2025]

We decided to organise a photo shooting early on Sunday morning, hoping that the summer heat would be bearable. Well, we were running late and it was hot as hell! Also, there were plenty of bugs in the green area where we met up!! Despite that, the photo session was pleasant, we managed to chat and Claudia was relaxed. She proved herself a brilliant model! I gather that from these images you can notice some aspects of her personality: her inner strength, her pride and a certain level of independence. Claudia, you are such an attractive warrior!!

Olivia, film photo session [Edinburgh, 2024]

When I asked Olivia if she wanted me to take portraits of her using the old analog camera Nikon F801s or the fresh new digital one, she giggled and whispered: “The film camera”! This reminds me of my mum, when she would take photos of me and my brothers on film during our childhood”. Well well, Olivia is the 2nd young model (she is a Gen Z!) to prefer film images, as I had the same response by Anagha a few weeks earlier (and she is the same age of Olivia). They must be both fun of soft images and of the film grain 🙂

We found some spots in the back garden and, under a grayish sky with a chilly air, we managed to work together and to laugh! Olivia is a pleasure to work with and her “joie de vivre” is bouncing out from some of the pictures, I find. We also got the help of an unsuspected photo assistant (my landlord Ian!). What more could we possibly need?!

Anagha, film photo session [Edinburgh, 2024]

Anagha is in her early 20s and is a student and one of the tenants in the house where I live. I love her common sense, simplicity and also her innocence. Last week-end, when I asked her to pose for me, she cheerfully accepted (blessed youth!). What hit me was that, when I asked her whether she preferred me to shoot her with my new digital body (R6 II) or with my old film Nikon camera (f801s), without hesitation, she replied : “Your film camera, please. This kind of pictures reminds me when I was a child and I was being shot in film by my dad”. Well, the rest is history 🙂 the results are below. She fit flawlessly into the spring context of our garden: she was indeed a flower between the flowers. And if you look carefully, in one photo some daisies emerge from her beautiful mane!

Stéphanie [Edinburgh, 2024]

Stéphanie is a French friend and one of my models. I believe that most of us, to some degree, dislike parts of our bodies and it can be normal to become reluctant to pose in front of the camera. It is a kind of step that you need to overcome. I wanted to keep practicing with my R6 II so I offered to take some portraits of her and this time she accepted more readily than the first time we had a shoot at the Botanical Gardens. Last Sunday afternoon it was chilly (7 degrees) with a slight wind so it was a real quick session: I took 42 shots in record time of 15 minutes 🙂 I had never taken portraits of an archer before! In some images she reminds me of some historical person, perhaps the keeper of a secret garden. Stéph, thank you for putting yourself out there, you are beautiful!

Olivia [Edinburgh, 2024]

Below some portraits of energetic and vibrant Olivia. She will turn 23 this week and is in the prime of her life. The red never goes out of style and I find that this tutu gave her a badass attitude!! I took these shots on 14/01, using my Canon R6 II which proved to have an unbelievable autofocus with wide (and wild!) ISO options. Photo number 4 was selected by PhotoVogue. Enjoy!

Angela [Paris, 2023]

Angela is beautiful in person and beautiful in colour photos, but in black and white photos she is even more beautiful. There is a magical and “eternal” touch in her black and white portraits. She is beautiful and very strong, she is involved in many projects. Positive and proactive, she comes with a great smile and the sacred “fire of art” is part of her personality! Enjoy these great shots dated June 2023!

Floriane [Paris, 2023]

My goodness, she’s beautiful and so full of life! Floriane is a mix of optimism and initiative, she’s a real force of nature! We met in 2006 in the library of Rabelais University in Tours during my Erasmus year and became friends! Since then, although we have lived in different countries, we have always stayed in touch. Since 2011, the last time we saw each other in France, we met again in 2021 in Scotland (she came to visit me) and now in 2023, in Paris, where I treated myself with a trip-in-advance of my 40th birthday. Taking portraits of Flo is easy, partly because she has a delicate, spontaneous and lively femininity, and partly because it was like a game! Enjoy these lovely images!

Nara [Edinburgh, 2022]

In the spring of 2022 I had the pleasure to take some portraits of Nara, a young student and artist, shy and talented. We gathered at the Royal Botanic Garden and in my mind I related the spring’s blossoming that was happening with Nara’s young age and current stage of life. Thank you for trusting my photographic skills, young lady, I wish you the Best of luck!

Floriane [Edinburgh, 2021]

Last November I had the immense pleasure to catch up with an old friend. We hand’t seen each other since 2010. Flo (Floriane) came to visit me me in Edinburgh from Toulouse. We met in 2006 at the library of the University of Tours, during my Erasmus year, and we became friends immediately. I guess it was a matter of empathy, artistic connection and a good vibes exchange. We always stayed in touch during the following decades!

Flo is one of the bravest and more optimistic people that I know. In the past 10 years she lived and worked in China & South Africa. I couldn’t believe that this time we would spend a couple of days together in bonnie Scotland!! The weather was reasonably dry and of course we managed to slip in a quick portrait session at the Botanics. Needless to say…she is a BEAUTIFUL subject to work with!

Catrìona [Edinburgh, 2021]

I took these portraits of Catrìona in September 2021. We gathered in her gorgeous, elegant flat, close to the Edinburgh city centre. Catrìona is the kind of friend who stays with you for life. We met when we were Erasmus students in France, back in 2006. She was from the University of Stirling, I was coming from the University of Parma. We gathered for dinner with other students and started chatting. We stayed in touch ever since, albeit sporadically, until 2017 when I moved to Edinburgh. At that point, she also became a point of reference for me.

Catrìona is an artist. She is honest, open, generous, reliable, active, brave. Gifted with a deep sense of friendship, she is romantic, a geisha and a samurai together, calm and intense, somehow she is a pioneer. I love her and I wish her all the BEST!! That day she was dog-sitting Estelle, that happily agreed to become part of the shooting!

Noemi [Edinburgh, 2021]

I met Noemi in 2019, via a mutual friend, and we got on well! Impossible not to cherish her: she is charming! She is young and brave, sweet and strong, delicate but determined, romantic and lively, adventurous but stable, and with beautiful big eyes!

Even although that Saturday morning the weather did not exactly spoil us, we found a couple of gorgeous green spots for some elegant “country-styled” shots! I will share a secret with you…she is shy but she can be an incredibly good poser!! Thank you, Noemi!
