“A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you, the less you know” – Diane Arbus

I was still in the addictive phase of studio portraits, planned carefully at the desk prior to the shooting + dark backdrop (which seems to me now a lifetime ago|). I just can add that I was delighted to photograph Ami in typical Japanese clothes, getting the chance to capture her curiosity, her bursting enthusiasm and her glee!

Margot is the daughter of friends. The first time I saw her she was a 8 months old baby! It has been a pleasure to document her growth, taking her some photos from time to time. And, one piece of information you should know about her, is that she was born to dance. In this session, I imagined to see her moving in an empty space…

“There is never a time or place for true love. It happens accidentally, in a heartbeat, in a single flashing, throbbing moment”
– Sarah Dessen

Back in January 2016 I had the pleasure to take a few portraits of these two young gals. I totally get the point of young models coming to the studio together, as this pacifies their expectations and gives to the shooting a lighter and funnier touch. The editing and the cropping in the old gold frame was definitely a classy plus!

“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years” – Audrey Hepburn

My favorite below!

“Twins are like a two-for-one deal on mischief. Double the giggles, double the trouble” – Unknown
This was the second photographic round for this duo in the studio. They had recently turned one year old and they were bolder. At the beginning they were not afraid but just really silent and a bit intimidated by the environment and the lights. However, after a few minutes of hesitation (in which they carefully studied the pros & cons of the place), they accepted to give up their dummies and, along with a sequence of compliments and encouragement, they started to feel comfortable and then to play!

Melissa had just turned one year old when she came with her mum in the studio. She was a little explorer, bold and not shy!

I had almost forgotten these shots of my aunt taken at her home. At the time I used to compulsively browse on the internet and when I saw whatever I thought would be appropriate for a photoshoot or would inspire me, I would buy it. I had put my hands on this black velvet hat, which reminded me of the Amish. My Aunt Angela had beautiful eyes and a wrinkled skin. That day (we were at hers for lunch) I had asked her to pose for me, for a couple of quick shots. Overcoming her usual shyness, she had accepted to play the role and this is the memory we have.

“Dance for yourself. If someone understands, good. If not, no matter” – Louis Horst

Gino lives in adoration of Fede, his human mom, he is her shadow indeed! He does not disdain the sofa (and his hair matches it!) + has an impressive number of puppets at his disposal. Enjoy this lovely, furry memory!

“How can you have lived for so long and still not get it? This self obsession is a waste of living, It could be spent surviving things, appreciating nature, nurturing kindness and friendship, and dancing. You have been pretty lucky in love though, if I may say so” – Eve from Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)

The concept behind Anna’s shoot was to revive a character from a Charles Dickens story, even though, in the end, we passed on to an interpretation of autumn! I was delighted to work with Anna in the studio (I have known her since primary school!) : she is an imaginative person who has emotional richness. She is also a polished, versatile and cooperative model. One of her pictures was selected by PhotoVogue.

Portraits of very young, carefree and buoyant Lorenzo. These were taken in the courtyard of my granny!
