Paolo [Parma, 2015]

“Adults play too — or should” -Julie Lythcott-Haims

I am attracted by the concepts of beauty and perfection, these two going together and to be meant as an aesthetic sense. I love harmony and am quite hard on myself on how to present a subject. But this is not everything to me. Talking about portraits, I often look at the work of famous photographers and these pictures can be perfect on the technical side but I will not really love them if there is not a vibrancy in them, if I can’t discover some “human” factor” hidden somewhere.

I do not think that I would take pictures if this wasn’t fun for me, if there wasn’t real joy in taking them. There has to be a playful side in taking the photo that makes my interest grow for the subject. Paolo is a reliable and very good natured person and I am happy he is also my friend. I have respect for him and he is only one of the few people I know who has a degree in Physics: this makes him look like a genius to me! He usually is quite serious, calm and peaceful so I was a bit surprised when he accepted to meet me and to have a shoot together.

Honestly I could not be more happy with the result: in these pictures you see a part of him that usually you don’t…since he was glad to go along with my idea of fun!

Viviana [Marore, 2014]

“I will spend the rest of my life assembling my own mind and my own soul. I will take care of my body carefully, not that it may any more please a man, but because it houses me and therefore I am dependent upon it” – Pearl Buck

I am thrilled to “undust” from my digital archives and to share on the blog some portraits of gorgeous Viviana, taken in April 2014 in Marore. Enjoy these memories!

Elisabetta [Marore, 2013]

Elisabetta and I, we have known each other since we were babies. She is one year younger than me and our families were neighbors, so we grew up in the same building and when we were little, we played together an awful lot (a few old memories pictures added at the end of this article can prove it)! Even tough, over the years, we did lose touch a little, I did not miss the opportunity to ask her if she wanted to pose for me and she accepted.

We met in Marore in a late July morning. It was warm and the light was not ideal as it was strong, direct and harsh however, we still got a glowy effect. I like these outcomes: Elisabetta’s portraits are neat, spontaneous, non-sophisticated and I find that her gaze reveals dignity and determination.

Below my favorite…

…but I cherish also this one!

and now a blast from the past! Photos taken between 1987 and 1989…

Laura & Filippo [Marore, 2012]

When I imagine true love, Laura and Filippo are one of the couples that come to my mind. Going through my photo archive, I didn’t realized how many pictures I took of them, over the years. Maybe it’s because I like them both individually and it’s also good to have them together! We gathered a summer evening in a field just outside of Parma. About the rest…well, enjoy their pictures!

Beautiful Laura!

and a snappy memory together with the photographer!

Laura & Filippo [Marore, 2011]

Simple gadgets can offer satisfying results without much of an effort. In fact, it can be difficult to think of anything simpler than balloons and soap bubbles! I am very proud of these photos, taken of my friends Laura & Filippo in August 2011!! Yet the simplicity that shines through is quite disarming! A field in Marore, one summer evening, soap bubbles, balloons, a poster with LOVE cut out (one I made earlier :-). You’ll think that I am crazy…Well this was fun and I take full responsibility for them!

a bit of a poser!!

and now let’s skip to the “serious” part of the shoot!

Uhm, did someone mention: Soap bubbles?!

and to finish, a very county-style shot!
