Maria [Parma, 2014]

“Humility is one of those virtues that if you have it, you think you do not have it“. The quote is from Italian writer Mario Soldati (1906-1999) and also applies to Maria. She is a humble, vibrant soul. She has a strong artistic talent flowing in her veins like torrens of rain pouring down from the sky. I am touched by the massive positive feedback we got from the pictures she took of me in Parma last week, and I feel grateful to her. It was not the first time we had worked together so, just for…“revenge”, please enjoy a couple of portraits I took of her back in Parma in 2014!

My favorite below

Laura [Parma, 2014]

The time you spend with somebody you love and admire is never wasted. Laura and I are the same age, we met at high school, although we were not in the same class. Laura is a Doctor and loves her job, which is also a vocation, but she also has a strong artistic inclination. Can you believe that, during our teenage years, we were both part of the school’s drama group?! That was a lot of fun!

That morning of September 2014, I went to her house, we had coffee, chatted and went out in the park close by, where we took these pictures. The purpose was not to make some serious photography, rather to entertain each other and I hope that, as of today, she can confirm to you it was fun for her also! I love these images as she is spontaneous, being her lovely self and guys, have you noticed her mesmerizing deep-blue eyes😍?! This old memory is a form of joy and inspiration for me, and a form of life too. Enjoy!

Juan’s headshots serie [Newbury, Berkshire 2014]

Juan is Spanish and he was one of my colleagues during my year in England. I loved deeply the company’s international environment, so friendly and open. Juan was such a cutie and he was happily married to beautiful Maria 🙂 Below you can find some of his headshots, taken in August 2014. Juan, you really look good!

Delphine & Mathieu [Paris, 2014]

I consider this my first international wedding even though, technically speaking, it is my second! In 2014 I lived in England and Delphine and Mathieu reached me because of Parisian mutual friends who had recommended me!! After browsing my portfolio they contacted me. I remember that Skype call, months before the wedding, when they informed me that they expected a spontaneous, documentary approach from their photographer and that they really didn’t want posed portraits. I also recall a certain amount of pre-shooting anxiety on the train on my way to Paris😚 Guess what?! Everything went well: Delphine and Mathieu were warm, welcoming, uncomplicated and so in love! The weather turned out to be decent, the details and the decos were enchanting, their family (with the couple’s son, gorgeous baby Adam!) and friends were the soul of the party and their wedding venue was this magnificent “guinguette” where we enjoyed, till late, such a good music (this being one of Mathieu’s passions). Also, their wedding photo booth was a win! It was an honour for me to be part of their big day, and I mean it. Enjoy these memories!

Sporty [London, 2013]

In 15 years as a photographic artist I have worked with many more women than men, it is no mystery. Based on my experience, it is more difficult for a man to willingly pose, in a laid-back manner, in front of a camera! And in some ways it is a pity, not least because, when I reviewed these shots (dated July 2013) to publish them on the blog, I realised that this guy looks real good on them!

Anne [Parma, 2013]

Anne came to visit me in Parma, during the summer 2013. It was a hot July day, however that didn’t stop us from taking some portraits. The first part of the shoot took place on the banks of the Parma Creek where, under the bridge, there were some graffitis that matched with Anne’s dress! Whilst the second part took place in the city center. Anne has a supple and agile body and her blue eyes are magnetic!

Daniela [Parma, 2013]

Photography, from ancient Greek, means “writing with the light”. I believe that this principle was fully realised during this photo session. The golden hour light on that late June afternoon was simply breathtaking: it was warm and delicate, and there was a breeze! It was not difficult to describe through a serie of photographs Daniela’s soul. She is sparkling and her proverbial smile comes before her. Thank you for posing for me, Dani!

Raffaella [Parma, 2013]

I first met her in 2011, when I went to her shop as a customer. Raffaella is a beautician (girls, just follow the link!) and it did not take long for us to connect and we have been close friends, especially over the past few years. I admire her loyalty, consistency, perseverance (she is a warrior!), her ability to listen and her compassion. Enjoy this lovely photo memory, dated April 2013!

Poldo e Martina [Marore, 2013]

I did not know whether to name this post Poldo & Martina OR Martina & Poldo. Then I went on for putting the 4 paws little devil’s name first, as he definitely was the shining star and a determined drama actor during our shooting! In April 2013, Poldo was 5 months old (Martina had taken him a couple of months prior) but his connection with Martina was already incredibly strong. He was really protective towards her and feeling quite possessive. He hid a big personality in a tiny body. I have always liked Dachshunds: they are clever little warriors that can defend themselves forcefully, they are quite stubborn and fierce and…they live in a completely horizontal world! Enjoy their memories!

Marti, you are beautiful!

Adele, Cloe & Alice [Parma, 2012]

Based on my experience, I can say that if children don’t want to do something, it’s better not to insist and keep asking them. That November afternoon of 2012, Adele and Cloe, the daughters of Alice (a dear friend and a videographer), were not in the right mood to pose in front of the camera. At the beginning, fairly for shyness, it seemed to me that they did not want it but also that…they did want it, just for a short time! So I had to adapt to their wishes, and chased them around Parco Ducale for an hour or so! They both ARE beautiful but not only that, they are clever with many talents. On the other hand, having a super mum, the result could only be astonishing! Adele was a beautiful, elegant, calm but also very quick observer whilst Cloe was the smiley rebel who would forcefully lead and engage you in her games. And still has today this buoyant optimism! Enjoy these memories!

Francesca [Parma, 2012]

During a portrait session, we normally get the best shots at the end of the shooting, as the beginning represents the awkward phase. The selection is a struggle for me and I don’t enjoy that part of the work. I never had the habit of culling backwards and I still don’t do that today however, for once, I have forced myself to go against my natural instinct of visually narrating Francesca’s session from start to finish and uploaded the tail end of our shoot. Enjoy these memories dated November 2012 and her beautiful face features!

Francesca [Parma, 2012]

This shooting started in a professional way (corporate style) but then, towards the end, we added some magic to it! It was lovely to have sinuous and elegant Francesca as a model in the studio for an hour or so. When I look back at portraits taken in the studio, I realise how much I love shooting indoors, having the power to control the lighting. Enjoy these memories!

I really love the 2 shots below, Francesca your smile is gorgeous!

Giving a different orientation to this one…
