I took these portraits of Maria in the green area surrounding La Cittadella. She is a unique, delicate and brilliant soul (bordering on genius). During this session, she seemed to me an actress of the 50s. Also, we had fun working together (the feeling was of playing a game)!

I have known Margaret since she was a baby. This portrait of her is from a session of 2015, when she was 13 years old. Adolescence is an dense, disruptively brief and confusing period in our lives even though this time didn’t really upset her, as she always has had a peace loving nature and you can see it in her eyes (but hey, don’t forget that this tough cookie knows what she wants)!

I met Valentina at my friend Diletta’s wedding, in 2011: she was the bridal make-up artist. Since then we have collaborated on some photo shoots and, eventually, I took some portraits of her who had fiercely and superbly done her own make-up! We met on a hot, humid August morning in a green area in town and, if I remember correctly, our theme was to represent the intense role of an actress from a Greek tragedy. Enjoy those epic shots!

I had a bizarre idea which became a peculiar photo shoot. I have a skinny cousin (who is perfectly healthy), and I would say he is carved in his body. The week before I had paid a visit to the Cathedral where I had seen the Deposition from the cross by Benedetto Antelami (dated 1178 AD). I merged ancient sacred art with photography by connecting them. I asked my cousin to pose for me and guess what he said…
I remember vividly the morning (the early morning, it was around 7 am!) I found out about the publication of my 1st image on PhotoVogue: it was a whirlwind of emotions! It didn’t seem real to me: I was looking for it, I was hoping for it, I cared for it but I didn’t count on it. I froze in front of my laptop and felt a sense of happiness, possibly I even felt like crying. I sent a text message to my friend Francesca who replied immediately congratulating me then, I paused.

Sara, oh, Sara, I will never thank you enough! This was one of my Top portrait sessions of 2015 and probably one of my best of all time. Everything was at my disposal: a very young, clever, ambitious and versatile model who put herself out there; the studio; the voile; the theme; the motivation, plus, we were all in a good mood that day (which was 11 July, my birthday)! A couple of weeks later, one of Sara’s photos became my first publication on PhotoVogue and this made of this shooting not only an accomplished one but added to it an emotional value, for me.
Diletta was due to give birth to Arianna three weeks later (that’s exactly what happened!). She was in splendid shape: she had just put on a her baby bump! We met in the green area surrounding Cittadella on a July late afternoon. It was hot and humid and we were equipped with mosquito spray to last an hour out there 😆The glow of that evening was close to perfection and it was a pleasure to witness and capture the spontaneity and simplicity of Dilly & Davide’s love. 2015 was a “year of grace” for me, photographically speaking. To this day, it was the most prolific time in my artistic career: I would shoot almost every week and I had a lot of creativity and energy. I was driven to try different experiments and I got the chance to meet and work with great models who put themselves out there and were personable and pleasant to discover! I got some outstanding results, some of those were from Thier’s portrait session. I did not have a specific theme in mind when I asked him to pose for me in the studio so I focused on his intense gaze and dove myself into the “Portrait mode”!

I have realised a few nude and Boudoir shoots so far and this is the only one that was taken in the studio. Working with naked or half naked models is more difficult indoors, I believe. It’s about technique and mastering the lights but it also relates a lot to knowing the space at your disposal and to how using it to your advantage. By the way, I was pleased by the results of this session where the model was absolutely gracious and uncomplicated.
