Twice as nice [Parma, 2014]

The world of twins has always fascinated me, although working with young children is a double challenge! These cuties were conceived one after the other, they lived in their mom’s belly together, they came out and … Look, they are different, not only physically but they also displayed different personalities! One was a little more introvert, the other a little bolder, one dared to take a few steps alone, the other needed his mother’s support. For sure, they were both mama’s boys, to whom they gave great satisfaction! Once they realised that the studio was not a mystery place, they put on big smiles and the hard part of the job was achieved, even though I was left with the doubt of…having taken out too many toys!

Giulio [Parma, 2014]

It is not a given to take pictures of kids in studio, partly because their expansiveness does not fit well in an enclosed space that tends to be shaded, and partly because indoors it can be more difficult for them to comply with the photographer’s instructions😁 Besides that, Giulio’s shots that follow below were taken in December 2014: they are colorful and funny, and reflect his spontaneous, lively and strong-willed personality. Enjoy these photo-memories!

Silvia & the bump [Parma, 2014]

Now back to Memory Lane in December 2014, with these archive photos of Silvia, taken at Carlo Urbani Foto Studio, whilst she was expecting her first girl. I love when photography shows aspects of the personality of the subjects. Reviewing some of these images, I smile observing Silvia’s lively wit, her enthusiasm and excitement about upcoming baby Matilde!

Toddler at the park [Parma, 2014]

I never stop being amazed by the facial power of expression of children and how suddenly it can change. This little girl, who had just turned 2 at the time of this photo shoot, said very few words but made herself understood clearly with her gaze! Her grandmother is a friend of my mother’s, so I offered to take some photos of her grand-daughter and we met in a park close by our neighborhood. The hour we spent together passed real quick, and after a short while, I noticed that the little one began to gain confidence and started to play freely with granny and Max (the smartest, kindest and most patient Poodle I have ever met), looking a bit mischievous but also as an accomplice! Enjoy these lovely memories.

Alessia & Raffaella [Parma, 2014]

God could not be everywhere, therefore He made mothers ~ Jewish Proverb

I babysat Alessia and her brother Marco for 5 years. And when I first saw her, she was 5 years old. Once I remember holding her in my arms to a doctor’s visit. Time has passed but I kept in touch with her parents as we became friends. It was a pleasure for me to take some photos of her and her mum Raffaella one evening in September 2014. They had recently moved house and there was plenty of free space near their new home and this is where we met. I really fancy the black and white shots!

Newborn shoot [Reading, Berkshire 2014]

One of Gina’s nieces had had a baby girl in August. As I had never taken photos of a newborn before, I volunteered to take some shots of her. Gina’s niece, Emma, and her partner agreed, so not only I had the chance to meet 2 weeks old Brooke, but also to work for her 🙂 No matter how many babies I have seen in my life, every time I see one I find it hard to believe that we were all like that: vulnerable, with wrinkly skin, but at the same time, super alert when awake! Brooke, on her side, also had a lot of rebel blonde hair and the fortune to have a big sister who literally adored her: editing their pictures (that are the sweetest and the most meaningful of the whole photo session), I noticed how enthralled she was with baby Brooke!

Gina & John [Newbury, Berkshire 2014]

When I arrived in Newbury, in July 2013, Gina was really the first person I spoke to and who welcomed me. I rented a room at her place between 2013 and 2014. I still remember with delight her warmth and friendliness. In July 2014 I had the pleasure of taking some shots of her together with her husband John and one of their nieces in Victoria Park. Unfortunately, we lost touch over the last few years and it’s a real shame, because I really miss her smile and her laugh!

Dario [Parma, 2014]

Time ago, I heard somebody say: “When you are curious, you find plenty of interesting things to do”…. and this statement still makes sense to me, as these portraits of a very young Dario (who was 3 years old when they were taken) clearly support this thesis. I met him at the park with his momma, a longtime friend, on a hot summer afternoon. We had a chat and I got the chance to take some candid shots of this young explorer who is now a 13 years old! Enjoy these beautiful memories!

Adele, Cloe & Alice [Parma, 2014]

I have known these ladies for several years: they form a team and it always makes good to me to see them together! Alice has two amazing daughters. In July 2014, we met on a warm afternoon in Giardini di San Paolo to take some portraits to the girls, who were beautifully dressed. Our photo session was shortly interrupted by little Jack Russell Berto, who was proud to be the centre of attention for a few minutes, under the delighted eyes of Adele & Cloe.

Family shoot [Casalbaroncolo, 2014]

My first shoot of 2014 shows a family that I love! Even though we are not blood related, I consider them as part of my family. Chiara and Pietro, I have “known” them since they were in the belly of their mum, yes, they are our neighbors! Throughout the years I have also met more times Lisa and Margherita, their first cousins who live just out of Parma. We met at their grandparents house and they posed for me.

In case you wonder whether they are twins, they are not: they were born 3 months apart!

Don’t ask my why this happened…

Family shoot [London, 2013]

In late September 2013, I went on a one-day visit to my friends Adele and Daniel, who were living in London. These shots show me the warmth of a family…and it so sweet! They have always been close and it has been a pleasure for me to catch some of the speedy moves of their little ones, who were 1 and 3 years old at the time. Adele, Daniel, Joshua & Lucia, thanks for trusting me!
